Allow me, the Scenar L is a serious contender, it's just not as sexy as a Berger in BC terms. It is a much more uniform bullet which eliminates any having to sort, and the new Scenar L comes ready pointed, it's still not as pointed as a Berger Hybrid or VLD but you have to have a good look to notice the small difference.
In three different rifles, .284, 7mm Saum and 7/270 WSM they have all shot somewhere between 5 to 15 thou off the lands. You will need a free bore of around .250 and they work very well in a 1-9 twist.

Oh and they are nearly half the price of the Bergers!

Not in Australia unfortunately. Good bullet no doubt, but they're slightly dearer than Berger over here.

I used an 8.5 twist at 800ft above sea level and would have chosen a 8.25 if one was available . I used .230 freebore with these and 180 hybrids . Running .240 for the 184s .

I have used a lot of the Sierra 183s, which I do like, but you certainly do want a twist faster than 9" , especially at 284 velocities and cooler weather. I will now only try them in my 8.5" barrels which they go well in and will also only use the 183 Copperheads in my 8.5" barrels

Hi Rod, What speeds were you running the 183smk in your 284's ?

My 284 only has a 27” barrel and is running at 2800fps.
In my SAUMs I am running them around 2940fps but I did see another shooter hammering the X ring with them yesterday at a bit higher speed than this.

how much freebore is required for the 183 copperheads in a 284 chamber?
bruce.

My 284 is .189" freebore and I believe the freebore in the reamer Matt cut my last few SAUM chambers with is on the shorter side, possibly .200" (I'm happy for Matt to correct this) and these are fine with the 183s. It is likely that longer, .220 to .240" will work with 183s, but I dont mind a neck full of bullet.

8.5" will work with 183s in the warmer temps we have coming now. While I never used to like 2213sc, now that 2209 and 2213sc seem to have sped up a bit in the last few lots, I am starting to use 2213sc much more than I used to.

I’m not the most experienced shooter but I also have a long winter season which can be used to prepp everything. The Scenar is as uniform in weight and BTO compared to 180/184 Bergers. I run them in barrel burning 3050 mps in my 7SAUM since my wind reading skills must be improved and the BC is quite low. I’m pleased with the vertical spread for the 180 as with the 150 in my 7-08. The real advantage is that that they are easy to tune together with Reload Swiss Powder (Adi/Hogdon is no longer available in Sweden). Both seating depth and powder charge has a wide window of precision and low SD

I’m must give all members of ozfclass.com credit for being the best forum for knowledge I have found when it comes to precision shooting on paper (BR incuded, been ther done that). No FB pages or forums I have found has the level of discussions and the politeness, hat off.

sincerely
