competition dies - are they worth it?

My run- out gauge is used mainly for sorting. When used for straightening the projectile in the neck, it tends to push the projectile into the case and increases the jump, as well as leaving a flat spot on the neck. Not sure what effect this has on the group.
I prefer to use the ammo with the highest run out at the short ranges where I have more room for an error in wind estimation.
When seating the projectiles I try to seat halfway in then turn the case in the shelholder and then push the remainder of the way. This seems to reduce the average run-out.
