Some rifles just "work". ie behave themselves under recoil, track rite, are tollerent to shooter technique error and are accurate. Other FTR rifles seems to be a real struggle to find that combination. They can tick a couple of boxes but struggle to meet all requirements.

Becuase of the weight limitation it becomes more of a point of "what are you willing to sacrafice?". Youd like a parallel barrel but it measn you need a light action which may not handle the pressure . . . . Youd like a strong action but youll need to cut weight out your stock so you go CF over timber . . . . .you need to the weight of your rings so you end up with you aiming device attached with a piece of alfoil. . . . .youd like a nice solid rest but you see the grams of a joypod and become blinded!

Physical balance plays into it but coming from FO its a challenge to take everyhting that you know makes a good rifle and have the scales tell you you cant have it! Haha

Looking at the different rifles at the moment everyone has differnt ideas on where they feel they are willing to comprimise the most and i think its really good to be a part of a discipline that is still evolving in the same way FO has over the last 10yrs.

I will do F Open at shoots I drive to, but I will fly to South Oz Queens and most of the 2 day Bisley shoots around the country which are starting next year, and it is easier to fly with F/tr set up.

Sounds like a plan. I will admit that traveling with an F/TR setup is easier. Welcome to the Dark Side.

I look forward to the Bisley shoots too. They will be awesome fun.

Rod , I think the best thing to do would be to still shoot OPEN but use your bipod!! None of us will mind ..

There's much to be considered with the FTR rig, projectile choice being no small part of it.
I think there's a body of work that needs to be done in the area of designing the platform around the projectile.
The "FTR" reamer from ptag seems to deal with the heavy pills well, while the old comp chambers have stood the test of time with 155s, but we all seem to have different ideas on the stock and barrel.
I have my parallel barrel, which i had cut to 28" expecting an easy tune with the 200s, and while its good (when I clean it) its just not quite there.
Maybe i got spoiled by a couple of exceptional #7 profiles, or maybe that's the right barrel for me.
I guess I'll just have to shoot more bullets and see.

I had pronlems doing development on a pedestal then putting the gun on a bipod. You may get lucky but i have no doubt you'll feel the gun behaves differently. For me it meant fine tuning again, and I've not done it since.

Gents, I've built a new rig to try a few ideas out. I will have about 190gm to spare from my calculations. I'd like to get it to about 40 to 50gm under weight. Where would you add weight if possible to get the most out of it.

On the fulcrum, if the rifle is already well balanced.

Well, this would be front heavy. Its a nearly pure BR style rig.

My best barrels are heavy Palma's oh and a rather odd medium Palma that loves 215's, but that is just a feak IMO. I really dont think it is needed to go over heavy Palma for the heavy projectiles, and not over a Bull profile for sure. I cant help wondering if much heavier you are going to come into balance issues or other issues from taking weight for elsewhere.
