Geoff,

Our fellas were using odd leftover projectiles, powder dregs, culled brass and retrieved tomato stakes...

Here are the F-Open team scores, generously supplied by Mike Waites (generously because this is the second event in a row where his son has had quite a good score compared with a close relative :D ).

To be fair Alan Mike and l had a talk and this sort of thing seems to be happening a bit around the traps ( Experience being done by youth). In the interest of family harmony we both decided after a meeting to do what ever we had to to let the LITTLE BOYS have some fun.So it was hard to get our scores that low very hard so the little ones could have some time in the sun but we managed to do it.just by aiming off and at times we had to shoot a 4 just to get the scores below there's.Mike and l have takenone in the Goolies for family Bliss well done......=D>

Well said Michael.

I was busy using up all the left over ammo, so that I could reload for this coming weekend (pennant). I'm ready for another runner up score

*** Just wondering, what do people think about having the F Class Teams District Championships shot at 3 different ranges throughout the year?
1. Bendigo
2. Warnambool
3. Rosedale

Michael and Mike,

A meeting between your respective sons has also been reported.. "I try to let the old boy win, but he just can't help himself"

Re rotating the venues Mike, if you are serious, how many targets would be required?

Alan

Looking at the F Standard teams, there are 7 compared to our 4 in Open. Good point about numbers, that causes some issue at Rosedale. Maybe time to put in 2 more target frames.

I was looking more to having the Championship based over 3 separate shoots, at 3 separate locations. And separated enough in geographic location as to enable those that would not normally shoot, have the opportunity to shoot if it was closer to them (e.g. Warnambool and Rosedale).

And of course time will be important in being able to get both classes through in time. As they would have to shoot separately as most ranges wouldn't have 11+ targets available.

If you are going to travel to these events, maybe a 2 day event would be worthwhile.

Day 1: 500, 600, 700 x 10 shot matches
Day 2: 900, 1000 x 10 shot matches

Excellent suggestion Mike.
Unfortunately it won't happen -- too radical
Some you cannot get out of their comfort zone for one day in the year-- let alone three.
All very well for me to talk I suppose as Bendigo is my home range, but It's still the best option.
This year was the best it has been and if the VRA would only get off their proverbial and promote the competition I'm sure there would be a greater attendance.
I still think a separate weekend for each discipline ( TR and FC ) would maybe encourage more to attend. Unfortunately the whole weekend is centred around the AGM -- this being # 1 priority. Well, that being the case, they should hold it on the day of the F Class, the attendance is larger
With the state of the DRA's ( some strong, some weak, some non existent ) one would think that trying to maintain the integrity of the comp has to some large degree reduced the participation.
Having cutouts is questionable. Sure, it may well encourage more participation, but it detracts from the overall interest as running totals cannot be kept and the final result is not known until the low scores have been cut out.
What used to be 13 DRA's is now down to 6 or 7. So, the question remains " should the theme still be DRA's" or should there be some other way of running the comp?
eg Why not have ALL club champions compete rather than some 7 or so DRA champs? This was actually done some years ago at Williamstown and the match was fired Bisley style --two to a target.
There are many ways to make this comp more interesting and thereby get more involved, just needs the membership to put something to the VRA for consideration.

Barry,

I would certainly entertain a second day of competition, so the idea of having 2 weekends would make for a greater competition.

Saturday: 500, 600, 700 yards
Sunday: 800, 900, 1000 yards

Now it is a matter of gauging public opinion as to whether there is enough interest to put it up to the VRA.
