Thanks for the info I think I'll stay with straight 284 and go with the 10 x 60 March
also what powder are you using Im using 2213 with 180g Hybrids but thing about tying 2209
I'll put a photo for my new Bat up when finished hopfully next month

I have used both 2209 and 2213 and they seem just as good as each other. I hope it comes together nicely for you Stuart and Look forward to the Photos.

I'm currently shooting a 10kg 6BR and have a .284 switch barrel on the way.

You said that you need to be careful in switching between the 6BR, 6.5x47 and .284sh. Does this mean that you change your rifle hold and technique between calibres or are you talking about mentally preparing yourself for the different recoil so as not to flinch?

Hi Denis,
It is a double edged sword really. Firstly I have to be careful for the first few shots after shooting the others for a while as there is a marked jump in recoil and hence a bit of a shock factor although that is getting better. Mental preparation and following my routine helps. I can also get very lazy with my 6BR and seem to get away with almost any hold/technique. This is not quite true - but in comparison it feels that way and I try not to shoot it too much in between and try and use same technique for all now. But it is a joy to pick it up every now and then. (I must say the new stocks are helping though and if you are at 10kg it will be quite tame really once you get used to it.)

I took awhile to get comfortable with the 284. Now after 6years shooting 284's it is second nature. I actually shoot mine free recoil.

I tried a 300wsm, too much for me. Others have mastered it though, Paul J shoots his with ease.

Thanks Dave and Cameron. I have a .284 & .300wsm on the way. I'll be shooting the 180 hyb's and 230 hyb's so Im sure it will be a shock to the system. I certainly won't go in expecting my 6BR technique to work straight away.

There are a lot of 308s around with stock weight about 6 to 7 Kg. In my opinion my 10Kg 284 running 180s is much more pleasant to shoot. And I'd imagine the WSM with 230s would still be quite okay.

It is a good comparison to make Alan. My 7kg 308 feels very similar in recoil to both the 8 and 9kg 284's (but with less torque roll). Some of the FTR loads coming out in 8.25kg outfits are going to have some sting too. 185 grain plus projectiles basically at same velocity as the 180 gr in a 284.

These rifles in the pictures don't look shiny enough to shoot well. Gotta get some more polished aluminum bits on them or some fake carbon fibre bits on them if you want them to roll with the big players.
As for your velocities, they are supposed to increase by 150 fps when measured at the keyboard.

Thanks John, Brilliant. It even has the old home made white scope on it.
The later version has a few more bits of metal bolted to the side here and there as weights but (unfortunately) the white scope is replaced by a highly modified nightforce!!

Is there a story to "Peter Smiths Wonder Gun". That scope looks really.................interesting!
