Problem solved - loaded a couple of stages with a new batch of BR4 and no problems whatsoever. Seems it was a crook batch of primers after all.

Problem solved - changed to a new batch of BR4 primers and all is good. Turns out the problem was a bad batch after all…

Just spoke to a mate of mine who is also an FTR shooter and he experienced the same problems abs guess what from exactly the same batch as I noted above.

Old thread but any more issues with cci450 primers
I have a new brick and have had 8 out 30 not go off
Good head space
Clean bolt
Good pin protrusion
Lawton action
New spring still get the odd one not going off
Never had problems before
New Alpha brass
Good seating
Some would go off after striking them 5 6 times
Some wouldn't after 567 strikes

Paul,
From my understanding it was a certain batch of CCI BR4's (i have some of those still) Also some running the Barnard action were having some issues with the firing pin protrusion with CCI 450's. I don't recall that it was a faulty batch. But, I have read on Shooter's forum (USA) some were having issues with some CCI450's a while back now.
CCI 450's have all been very good that I know of, not one misfire for me so far using them in a Dasher and .308W with two different brand actions.

Yes I was reluctant to blame primers as I has used many thousands of them over the years and never had a problem So that's why I did everything possible to eliminate any mechanical issues
Even a new 32lb spring
So it looks like a faulty batch I think ?
Anyway it's hard to find the batch number as it's not in ink
Pressed only on the front of the packets

Well faulty may not be the word as since having conversations with a few that have had the same problems seem to Maybe a combination of the shorter fall or lock time actions and harder primer cups May be the issue ?
