Brad,
If buying new 223Rem brass try ADI, they're good quality, very consistant volume, e.g. 30gns H2O +/- 0.5% and cheaper than Lapua.
There all I use these days.
Peter

Hi Brad
I've been using 24.9gns of 2208 CCI 400 primers ADI brass and ELDs in a 30" 1-8 barrel for 2 years now, the barrel was chambered for them I was getting between 2980 to 3000 fps and at long distances I have used it out to 1000yds. On a shot marker target the readings have been not far off the 155s in a 308 at that range.

Thanks Ras
I will hopefully get some ADI brass this week. I’ll try one change at a time .
Cheers Brad

Hi Peter. Interested to see your load of 24.8 gn 8208 behind an 80.5 Berger. I've seen blown cases and blown extractors when someone mistakenly used 8208 in place of 2208 with that load. Not sure why ADI bothers to list a max load of 21gns 8208 behind an 80 gn Sierra (at 53000 psi). When this person's rifle shot that load velocities were above 3300 fps ( registered on two Labradars). hBN must really have a huge effect on velocity and it certainly would be interesting to know what chamber pressure you are running and what case life is like. Regards Malcolm.

Hi Malcolm,
All 3 223Rem barrels were Krieger medium Palma with consistant bore dimensions i.e. 0.218 across land's, 0.224 across the groves. My experience is that these dimensions are 1st order determinates within the barrel coefficient of friction.
By way of variation another barrel I experienced was 0.217" across the lands and shot extremely well giving similar velocities for 2gn less powder. The match barrels I've measured range from 0.217 to 0.219 across the lands which would account for the powder range variation required to achieve around 3000fps for an 80gr bullet from a 30in barrel thus supporting the principle of starting 10% below the nominal load book value and working up.
Chs, Peter

PS Malcolm,
Pressure is 58k psi to 59k psi, 10 reloads per ADI case disgarded when junction between web and case body thins due to brass flow.
No loose or popping primers.

HI Peter. I suppose if you are getting 10 reloads out of your brass without loose primer pockets then the hBN must be dropping chamber pressures considerably. I have always put 8208 in the not so suitable category for the 223 with heavy projectiles given the pressure vs velocity figures. There is no way I would ever consider loads such as yours with uncoated projectiles from what I have seen (in Krieger barrels). Regards Malcolm.

On Sunday I carried out more tests with my 223,this time I used 2206H powder with the BTI additive @ 500 yards
1st Application
23.6gn 2206H BR-4 Primers 80gn ELD Match projectiles same Lapua cases as last week
1st Sighter 2848 2nd Sighter 2873, 2835 2842 2873 2857 2855 2876 2844 2835 2868 2866 Average 2856 score 49.5

2nd Application
23.8 gn 2206H Same primers , projies & cases
2851 2868 2884 2855 2891 2866 2882 2884 2880 2891 Average 2875 score 48.6

All 3 points dropped was due to my lack of ability, not conditions.
As this was the first time I've used 2206H I used mild loads according to advice from others on here, primers were not flattened and no trouble lifting bolt or ejecting shells.
This coming Sunday I will batch up some at 24 gn of 2206H to see how they go.
I have also purchased some ADI 223 brass, will try them as well if I get time to load some of them. Will start mild with these as well.
Feel free to add any comments.
Cheers Brad

It needs to go a lot faster, but you are increasing the load slowly which is a good thing. Mine was well over 3000 fps (probably max) but it was super accurate using ADI brass and 80gn sierras moly coated.

Hi
While I'm no expert I have a barnardaction LRP 223 where the advice at the club was to go straight to 25.2gn of 2208.

With testing I now use 25.4gn of 2208 with no issues with lapua brass reloaded over 15times .

The load does not look compressed but this is a custom rifle and the 80gn Berger's are notseated deeply. CCI small rifle primers

Seems to shoot well to 600yds , not used it much past that

Just wondering, what was your velocity?

I have worked with a few local shooters and they have also found this ADI brass to be tough, consistent and able to give higher velocities than Lapua brass.
