6.5x55 Swede Loads

Post by Chris S »

G'day All,

What sensible velocity could one push 142 gn SMK's etc. in the 6.55x55 SM
using Lapua brass and a modern, custom action or perhaps a trued Rem.?
How far behind the 6.5/284 would you be?

tnx, Chris :?:

G day Chris

In my wife's 6.5x55 I load 44.5g - 2209, BR2's and 139 Lapua's. I have not chrono'd this load but it shoots as flat as my 284 with 175mk. Rifle is based on Shilen action.

I have tried higher loads but with less accuracy. 6.5-284 would give higher velocity but barrel life is a big negative for me.

I have found the 6.5x55 cartridge quite easy to get along with.

Hope this helps

Swede

I agree, the "swede" works best with moderate loads. I found that around 47 grns of 2213SC works well. I have even found accuracy with as little as 42.5 to 43.5 of 2209.

Hi Chris
my results similar to the above.
in my trued Rem 700, 47 grains 2213sc or 43 grains 2209 will shoot into 20 mm at 200 yards, using 139 Lapua scenars and fed 210 primers
Cannot put my hand on the chrono data. But from memory just under 2700 FPS from a 26"barrel
