What is the approximate muzzle velocity of a 308 155gn factory Palma round (or similar) through a 30" 1/13 twist barrel?
Trolled the net for a few hours, you'd thing a such a simple question would have an answer. Anyhow would anyone here know?

There are many variables so its a very approximate answer, but I would say 2950fps would be about average in practice. The biggest variable is the powder load - type and amount. No doubt some will load over 3000fps, but there is less safety margin and case life may suffer. Others will load to something closer to 2900fps, but 1000yd performance may suffer.

Thanks that's what exactly I needed to know. Everywhere I read the run-of-the-mil factory hunting 308 is 2700-2750 FPS but surely with the light 155Gn PALMA round with it's slightly larger charge due to the light round combined with the extra long barrel I figured I MUST be getting close to 3000 FPS.
Now I know, Good show!
