James, Not sure - I've never been able to find a serial number on the NF either - must make them hard to keep track of for repairers. Do you know what the "LOW" indicates? Alan

Light Optical Works, my Nightforce scope is "LO1652 Made in Japan", engraved underside on main body in front of zoom ring

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Well I finally got some time off today and took my new rifle out to melt the barrell!! Still haven't bought the proper scope for it, so I'm just borrowing a friends Hi-Lux 24x.

First go today, so spent the morning running the barrell in and then seeing what it's got!

Keeping in mind this is my first ever rifle and first time shooting in well over a decade, I thought it did OK on day one :)

I took a whole batch of different home made loads to try out which was fun.

First few grouping runs weren't really a true reflection of the rifle and ammo performance as my new hair trigger caught me by surprise a few times!! Was just getting used to a good grip too.

Main loads used Lapua brass. Several loads...... in 308
155GR Lapua Scenar from 44, 44.5 & 45GR of 2206H
168GR Hornady AMAX with 42GR 2206H
155GR RJD's with 44GR 2208

I sprayed the Lapuas as I used these on my first 3 x 5 shot groups just getting used to the rifle. Groupings in order were 1.5", 1.0", 0.9"

AMAX's were awesome! They immediately gave great results and I pulled off the first 4 shots at 0.39" and should have stopped, but choked and the 5th blew it out to 0.51" :(

RJD's were great too at 0.5"

Great fun and I can't wait till next time for some 500m+ runs. Looking forward to trying some nice solid optics. Should tighten things right up.

Ignore the top left grouping.....my mate had a go and went shotgun style!! Squares didn't come out to scale and are 23mm. This was my first AMAX group.

Adrian 351, did you mean BJD projectiles, or RJD?
It would be good to play with the BJD HBC bullets as these ones will be legal for you to use in F class standard and are as good as it gets in this bullet range anyway.
As for scopes, I like my Nightforces a lot, but I am very anxiously waiting for mine to be returned from repairs. It got loose inside, after a bunch of use in my 284. But then my Leupold and Bushnell 4200 did the same after a bunch of shooting with 284s. It seems that most scopes will come a bit loose when using the bigger calibers a lot.
At least warranty will cover it and it will be a top scope for a few more 1000 rounds once it returns. Not many 308 shooters seem to have any complaints about them, so maybe the recoil impulse of 308s isnt so bad and the Nightforces will last for longer with them?

Hah! Yeah, chops would have been nice! The cows just loved strolling past our targets in the afternoon after their grazing!

The few groups I shot were RJD's , althought my mate also had some BJD's but I didn't try them. Might have to look into them.

After my first 3 five shot groups I noticed a small screw lying on the bench under my rifle....tracked it down to one of the scope turrets! All the others were really loose too, so gave them a good tighten....that could have effected previous groupings too.

Also had some fun with some 1/2" steel plate too!! Blew big holes in the 10mm stuff, but couldn't quite penetrate the thicker stuff :) Maybe some FMJ's will work better in that department!
