Hey all,
I’ve got a quick question, hopefully someone can help!
I’m just adding up the weight for my F Open rifle. I’ve got everything except barrel, which Maddco is a few months of making, so thought I’d prepare to see how much weight I have to play with, wether I need a weight system in the butt to add weight, or if I’ll be over and run a 30” instead of the planned 32”.
So, if anyone has weighed their 1.125 STRAIGHT tapered barrel, 30 or 32”, I’d be interested to know. Bonus points If it’s chambered in 284W!
1.125” barrel weight

Re: 1.125” barrel weight
I did it as a math problem, since I cant be bothered unscrewing my 31" barrel (7mm) and if SS is 7.93g/cm3 them a
30" barrel weighs 3.64kg,
and a 32" barrel weighs 3.88 kg , allowing for the hole in both cases. BUT not allowing for the chambering so minus a few grms... so these figures might be a few% high.
I'd be interested if i'm close when people check their actual barrel weights

Re: 1.125” barrel weight
A 7mm, 1.25" parallel x 32", chambered in 284W, weighs 4.6kg,
The same barrel to finish at 32", before threading, chambering and shortening/crowning weighs 4.9kg

The internet is a stupidity distribution system designed to replace facts with opinions, so that idiots don't have to think.

I'm not so sure - who uses 1.125" parallel for 7mm in F-Open?? That implies a 1.125" reinforce. Making the 10Kg weight is not usually a problem with 1.25"parallel.
So if it is 1.25" then I calculate 4.46Kg for a 30" and 4.76Kg for a 32" (using 7930 Kg/cu m, 284 Win, Barnard thread).
For 1.125"(?) the figures would be 3.58Kg and 3.82Kg respectively.
Re: 1.125” barrel weight
yes, that sounds about right for the OP question, after subtracting the chamber etc your figures are about 60g lower
