Excellent suggestion Mike.
Unfortunately it won't happen -- too radical
Some you cannot get out of their comfort zone for one day in the year-- let alone three.
All very well for me to talk I suppose as Bendigo is my home range, but It's still the best option.
This year was the best it has been and if the VRA would only get off their proverbial and promote the competition I'm sure there would be a greater attendance.
I still think a separate weekend for each discipline ( TR and FC ) would maybe encourage more to attend. Unfortunately the whole weekend is centred around the AGM -- this being # 1 priority. Well, that being the case, they should hold it on the day of the F Class, the attendance is larger
With the state of the DRA's ( some strong, some weak, some non existent ) one would think that trying to maintain the integrity of the comp has to some large degree reduced the participation.
Having cutouts is questionable. Sure, it may well encourage more participation, but it detracts from the overall interest as running totals cannot be kept and the final result is not known until the low scores have been cut out.
What used to be 13 DRA's is now down to 6 or 7. So, the question remains " should the theme still be DRA's" or should there be some other way of running the comp?
eg Why not have ALL club champions compete rather than some 7 or so DRA champs? This was actually done some years ago at Williamstown and the match was fired Bisley style --two to a target.
There are many ways to make this comp more interesting and thereby get more involved, just needs the membership to put something to the VRA for consideration.
