W.T. No 300 yds at price meeting

Post by Ned »

I have noticed a trend by some clubs and some Individuals that think that 300yds is not worth shooting any more at prize meeting. and the damage to targets is getting out of hand, W.T, I allways thought the idea of shooting was to shoot the centre out. If clubs can't make up replaceable centres for 300 yds there is somthing wrong. I have read that at the Moe prize meeting that F/Open will shoot a different range to every one else at 300yds, So F/OPEN really think that they shoot better than F/Class shooters.if you want to keep shooters away from prize meeting keep segregating them, And it will go back to the way it was, with F/Open shooting by them selves, which probabaly suit some individuals. they dont play well with others.

There are ways of conserving the centre of short distance targets, to the benefit of TR & F class shooters.

300 metre shooting on paper targets scores the target after the event. Target centres (out to the 7 ring) are replaced each 10 shots, but each shot is immediately patched out on marking with clear patches (we use cellotape here) & spotted with a paper spotter affixed with a black patch that lips the spotter. No sticks are used.

At the Queensland F class team practices, we used the same procedure at 300 metres & the super Vs held up for the full squads of both open & standard shooters. We might have been pushing the envelope a tad, as the centre started to glisten some towards the end , but it's certainly an alternatively.

We've used the no-stick spotters at club TR matches here at Belmont in the past, though I'm not sure what the current practice is.

I thought F std would be harder on centers, with lots of accurate rifles, but bigger diameter bullets. I have shot 300M unsing the ISSF glue on target centers for each shooter and cellophane patches. This works brilliantly. I am easy either way as to whether 300yds is going to be shot, but if it is, then The ISSF method would be far easier, no more shattered spotter pegs blowing up target centers.
