Front Rest

I am about to get a front rest and was wondering if I could place it on a thick rubber mat, simmilar to a conveyor belt type rubber.

The rest does not have big feet only spikes as it has been produced for Bench Rest shooting.

What are your views?

Hi Simon

I have a Harris BRS Model bypod for my standard rifle, but this is a SEB Rest for Bench Rest shooting.I dont want the spikes to sink in the sand on the F Class mound, so I was wondering if I could use a mat to put my rest on.

I was taking the piss.

I don't think it is illegal as we can put a mat under our biopds. The rules only really pertain to the protrusion of the spikes into the mound from what I recall.

Paul,

Rule 20.2.1.4 for F-Std says "A piece of carpet or similar material is permitted to be placed on the ground under the base of the front rest". Reading that, a thick rubber mat may not be allowed. IMHO putting flat feet on your rest would be better than a mat anyway - if you cut 3 small discs out of your thick rubber mat and pierce them slightly with the spikes, that will be legal, and more stable!

G'Day PB,
I too have a SEB rest for BR only, but I think the threads are metric (I think I read it some where) on the SEB. You need to get a metric All-Thread to suit, and some plastic knobs (with brass inserts) also from a Bolt/Nut suppliers look in the yellow pages under Bolts & Nuts for a local supplier.
Take in one of the legs and the locking nut so they can see what you want to do. If you know somone with a lathe you can turn them down into spikes and possibly make F class feet like Sinclairs sell see link......
