A 284 kmr is a 7mm 284 that is blown out to a slightly bigger than a Shehane but then also added a 40-degree shoulder.
I have 1 too and they are hummer rifles that can get a 180 up to 2950 with now pressure signs

Essentially a shortened and overweight 280 ai! With the price of Saum cases ( $6 ea at the worst I’ve seen and $3 the best ) there maybe a few people looking at standard bolt face cals again ?

Congratulations to the winners, amazing shooting S Braund! On manual targets too ( or was it ET’s?)
Just proves it’s the nut behind the butt and it inspires me to do better , hopefully lol!

so where does that leave the 6.5 super lr with a good nut behind the butt.?
bruce.

Very happy with mine (the nut behind the butt being the weak link.)
140 ELDs at 3050 with 09 in necked down Palmer brass is going well.
I might try for the 3200 node with 08 but then again i might be better off tweaking the nut

Tim , 3050 with 140 and 2209 in that case is RED HOT!! The only thing holding it together is the Palma Brass!! Try that in Large primer Brass and you will need a Dentist real quick . I ran a 260 AI for years( which is bigger!!) ,with Palma Brass too and I can tell you if you even try to get the 3200 node with 2208 there is a damn good chance you will eat your Bolt!!

Thanks for the warning Brett.
I'm surprised to discover that. The cases just had their 5th firing, and no problems with bolt lift. No pressure signs, the B is still visible on the primers(not quite as pronounced as a new one but easily seen) and no cratering. 46.8 of 09 didn't strike me as lots. I do find I need to FL size but thats as far as it goes, I've not even needed to trim yet.
Maybe its the fantastic chambering that fella Paroz did.
I'll take your warning onboard, it shoots too good to stuff around with anyway. I'll try the RDFs then screw the dasher in.

what does this say about free lunches?

It says the nut behind the butt is the most important bit of equipment.

Wow they've certainly come on the scene unnoticed (by me at least)! This is mainly a South Australia trend I assume? Has anyone measured the difference in capacity to a Shehane (which already has about 10 thou less body taper than standard, and I can't see the 40 deg shoulder holding a lot more than the standard 35).

I think its only another 1/2 grain capacity on the shehane. Is it better ? I dont think so. Ya still gotta hold good vertical and read the wind.

My 284 Walker at times shoots VERY well. The rest of the time it's subject to the same 'gremlins' that plague us all and keep us striving for more. Regards Rob K.

284 win, 284 shehane, 280 ackley, and others have all suffered from this.
expectations of a certain velocity and loading to that rather than to sane safe pressures.
when the 284 came into vogue, 6br reported guys shooting 180s at 2950 routinely.
well we now know that if you want case life, 2830 is a much more sensible number in long barrels.
guys were looking for 3050 from the 280 ackley, and we now know that 2950 is probably the red line.
the first thing to get blamed was weak brass rather than unreal expectations.
chasing that extra 100 fps or even 50 fps still seems to be a disease associated with fclass.
usually good accuracy can be found at lower speeds with most cartridges, but people just refuse to go there.
still more points are lost to wind than anything else, and there are no free lunches in avoiding this.
the other issue here is that wind reading takes time to learn, and people want instant results.
possibly the 7mm wsm is the ideal choice with the newer 195 gn type of bullets
but then we are too tightarsed to keep the barrels up to it.

The thing with the SAUM is that it shoots "well" with pretty much any load you feed it. You can easily find about 4 different nodes so just pick one that suits your range template and appetite for recoil and barrel life. Brass is good quality and lasts a long time.

I've seen some amazing scores with the .284 based cases but the SAUM consistently shoots well.
