Post by SAVAGEV »

Hello :D f class shooters, does any one know any thing about these actions :?:
I have been looking at a interarms mark x 308 which is for sale, are they any good :?: I need a 308 to shoot out to 1000 yards in standard , what barrel twist rate do i need to have , i am thinking of using 155 serria hpbt projectile.
I need another rifle,my gun safe is looking sad  ,i have only a 223 in their for f class standard.

It might be OK for a starter rifle if the barrel is not shot out. I have one and it shot 3/4 MOA with very old Schultz& Larsen barrel which fouled badly. The action is probably made by Zastava (stamped on the underside of the action)
A good strong action (M98 design) but not commonly found on target rifles.
If shooting F Std you have to shoot Sierra or BJD 155gn. 1:14 or 1:13 is the twist that most people use..

You would probably be better off buying a used target rifle, then it will be well suited to the purpose. Omarks can be had cheaply even if they have an OK barrel(look thru the Omark threads on this site). Have you been to a shoot and had a go yet ? Some clubs have club rifles for prospective new shooters to have a try with. You may even find a good rifle for sale at your local range
let us know how you go...

Hello :D Sam, i have been shooting f class for nearly 2 1/2 years at bundaberg big bore range.i have only a 223. the rifle i use is a savage bvss model 12 with a 1 in 9 twist s/steel barrel,i use 69 serria hpbt.i shot out as far as 700 yards with it with v/good results on a good day. i have used a 308 at the over distances off and on,but miss out on points at champion shoots and some times i use over shooters rifles. here is a photo of my savage 223 i use. you will see i took out the 2005 best scope shooter for that year at bundaberg.i will keep looking.

Have you looked into rebarreling the .223 with 1:7 twist to shoot 80gn bullets ?
