ACT Queens 2006 F-Open Diary
Well, we're here! Apart from getting lost in Canberra and learning that snow is predicted for tomorrow, there's nothing to report - will find out who's here in the morning. catch you tomorrow night after what looks like being an interesting day!

Yes, we had a hint of the promised snow ! And there was a healthy tail-wind, which changed its mind often, so pretty tricky. See results of day one HERE.
Calibres : Eager 6 Dasher, Burdett 6BR, Bell 6.5x284, Wild 7x284, Groves 6.5HI, Miners 6BR, Quaintmere 6BRX, Fraser 6.5x284.
A couple of F-Std shooters took us to a "a nice little pub" for a feed - turned out to be a gay bar - we've just escaped back to the motel
. We'll be choosing our own place tomorrow night .
Looks like there are 11 entries so far for the Queens - nothing like last year unfortunately. Catch you tomorrow night - weather supposed to be less moisture, but still cold and windy, so 7-800m should be entertaining.

BTW bruce M won the annual 300m egg shoot at SSAA para range last weekend against the short range bench boys I think he set a new range egg record to boot.

Gidday again from Canberra,
Very cold, and conditions very difficult. Last year's A-Grade winner Spencer Dunstall got a 43 at one range! A couple of F-Open shooters changed calibres - Geoff Miners to 6.5x55 and Shane Quaintmere to 6.5x284, and Dave Groves was crook and missed the full day.
Due in a large part to some favorable conditions at the last range, I managed to bring home the bacon in the Rolph. Richard Wild and Robert Eager filled the placings. And Adam Davies won F-Std with some very consistent scoring. RESULTS
Tonight we dined at a Chinese restaurant of our own choosing .
Tomorrow is the main event - haven't checked the weather yet, but if the wind is like today, even the shorts will be hard.
I'll be back tomorrow night.

First day is gone, and we have a familiar situation with Matt Paroz 5 points clear. Robert Eager and Kelvin Bell are hanging in there in 2nd, the rest are all within reach if the Gods smile on them tomorrow. DAY 1 RESULTS.
Weather was a complete contrast from the leadup - fine warm and winds much moderated, but still tricky as Canberra is. There are 13 in the field. The 5 additional to the Rolph are Matt Paroz (6BR), James Hills (6.5HI), Hans Hoitink (260 Rem), Stephen Rigby (260 Rem), and Anthony Pederson (6.5HI)
Tomorrow is the make or break day with 7, 8, 800m. Will be back tomorrow night

It is a 2.000 inch case (slightly shortened 243/308 case) with the neck pushed back to make it around .320 long and it has a 40degree shoulder which is blown out to about .453 with the base about .468.
It is a 6.5mm cal Drives the 120gn family of projectiles ok, but it is a littlefussy about the loads using the 140gn family of projectiles

Despite being fine and warm, and wind rarely over moderate strength, anyone who's shot at Caneberra knows how tricky it can be at 7 and 800m. It was patchy too - some people had disasters in all classes.
In F-Open, Matt Paroz is on a roll. He won every range today. I had a good day (only let him get away by 6
), and Richard Wild had a good day too - his 7mm-284 with 168 Bergers certainly shows its class at the longs. On the progressive points, Matt is safely 16 points clear of Kelvin Bell and I, with Richard Wild and several others within striking range of second, particularly if it's tricky tomorrow.
In Standard, Adam Davies is in the lead, with about 10 others all breathing down his neck. DAY 2 RESULTS HERE
I may not get to this tomorrow, night - long drive, but the main results page is HERE.

Another great Canberra Queens has been and gone. Five days solid shooting - great fun, but I wouldn't want it to be many more. You need to come back to the real world to appreciate it.
As expected, Matt was uncatchable in the Queens, in fact he increased his lead on the last day. Well done Matt - keep it up - we need you there as the benchmark!
Things were much closer for the placings. I went into the last shoot with a 4 point lead over Kelvin for second. He had a 93 and thought he'd blown it, but then I had an 89 and we were equal. There was some confusion about how to break the tie, and it was eventually done via a countback on stages, which gave me the number 2 badge! James Hills won the last range to get up to fourth - a great first Queens. He edged out Richard Wild who took the 5th badge. You would have to say that 6.5mm was the calibre to have. Apart from Matt's use of the 6BR at the shorts, and Richard Wild's 7mm, the top 5 placings were all 6.5 variants.
In F-Std, stephen Hart took the honours.
QUEENS AGG RESULTS
Till the Vic Queens, in March, that's my diary duties over.
