Shooting scoped rifle off a sling is already catered for -- it's called optical class -- but it never really hit the big time. Brisbane used to include it in their Queens but I think they now put it on as a separate event, JohnK would know more.

Rod and I were sharing this rifle at a Christmas shoot. We would simply detach the sling and add the bipod and remove the cheek piece for me to shoot in F Std.
QRA has run Optical class - an exclusively Aussie discipline - for a number of years now with the financial support of Kerod Lindley. However, as you'll note from the rules, it's an overly restrictive class in my opinion, as the overall weight limit is 7 kg, only ½ kg more than its kissing cousin, target rifle - a discipline that it shares target dimensions with. That weight limits the scope & mounts options somewhat.
Internationally (ICFRA), both FO & F/TR provide for sling support in addition or in substitution to the prescribed rests for the class as long as the rig remains within weight limits. Britain (Bisley rules) essentially uses the ICFRA rules & the same options, but of course, both use the F Class target dimensions, not the more liberal TR class target. The US has an any rifle class shot over similar distances & on the same targets as their Palma rifle class (which incidentally allows any calibre & unrestricted rifle & trigger weight) - again on a target largely identical to the ICFRA TR target.
Our F Class rules allow for a sling to be used only in conjunction with the prescribed rests.
At a well-attended meeting of the range membership this morning, Rosedale voted overwhelmingly to trial F/TR class in weekly club competition as from next weekend, and subject to VRA approval, to include F/TR at our March 17/18 OPM. Not sure how many we'll get entering the class at the OPM, but several range members are intending to do so, and hopefully a few from further afield will make the trip for what may be the inaugural F/TR competition in Victoria.
We may be a bit slow off the mark compared with other states, but down the track Rosedale will hopefully be able to look back with pride as the first (to my knowledge) range in Vic to recognise the potential of F/TR, and importantly put theory into practice.
I for one am proud to be a member of the club that is breaking the ice in Victoria.
I do expect certain members from a club west of Rosedale to visit us with their F/TR rifles, along with an invite for anyone in the area who has a rifle that meets F/TR rules to come and shoot at Rosedale.
Oh, Alan is FORBIDDEN from shooting F/TR due to his shooting three possibles today in FO.
