Primers for FO

Hello all,

I am about to start trialling a 260 wildcat for FO. I have all the bits sorted except primers. What primers do people use in things like the 6,5 x 284 and 6,5 x 55?

I usually use CCI BR2's these days in fullbore. Pressures willl be higher I am guessing in the 6,5 than the 308.

I use CCI BR2's in my 6.5. I have tried Federal 215M's with promising results but not done enough work yet to settle on a load with them for competition. I'll let you know progress though.

My favourites are the PMC "Red Russians" for anything burning 2208 or 2209. Since these are not available to most people now, I use CCI BR2s when I want to save my PMCs.
Another Inch action user over here has been experimenting with primers, and his rifle (or pin/spring combo) prefers the BR2s as well.

Can you clarify your definition of po\rimers there?

Are you referring to the standard Russian LR primer that PMC marketed or their "green" equivalent, or one of the two LR magnums?

John, for large rifle, I use the standard large rifle, with the red and white box and the orangy red priming compound. I dont know what the difference is between the large rifle magnum and standard but I would like to get hold of a stash of the magnum ones anyway incase I find a need for them anyway.
For small rifle I use the SRM versions (in my 22BR and 6 Dasher burning 2208) as the magnums have a tougher cap, but since my 284 and 308 are only cruising at low pressure I dont need the magnum ones.
Some people have had missfires with the PMCs, so not all firing pin/spring combos work with them. Anyway its all academic as not many people have PMCs anymore and I dont know how they go with high pressure Matchrifle loads or Vihta Vouri powders

The PMC[made in Russia] large rifle magnum primers have a "pale green" compound. I bought mine over 4 years ago when they were still available, and, also use them sparingly. The best consistent elevation that I have ever achieved was using these primers and it is a shame that they are no longer available. I am down to my last 1900

Basically I have a few but don't really use them I found them to need a very good firing pin strike without any headspace issues or I would get misfires.

With fire formed cases though there is no issue. Bloody 7.62 chambers

I'm using CCI 200 LR primers in my 284S but I would really like to try some Russian made Wolf primers. Similar packaging to PMC primers but dont know if made in the same factory or similar quality.

Anyone know where I could get box of 1000 Wolf LR primers? These primers are used and preferred for the 284W/284S calibres in the US of A and I would like to see for myself how they perform. In the USA they are also much cheaper than the CCI BR2

Yes, the ones in the picture are the same as the ones I have and work well in my 284 with 2209 powder. Other people have had missfire problems with them as well so some pin/spring combos luv em, some dont.
IanP. From what I have heard, the Wolfs are the same as PMCs, same factory, same lot markings etc.
I would love to get hold of some Wolf small rifle magnums.
I have rung around everywhere with no luck.

I've got approx 1500 of them and was just going to burn them up on plinking ammo but i'll look after them now till I have a real use for them.
