G'day All,
at the end of the day reading top 20 equipment lists gives a pretty good indication of the quality of a barrel from any given maker, because it shows what is working. However, it may depend on who the "local" or closest maker is, cost, shooter preference etc.
Even the most accurately made, straightest, closest tolerance barrel chambered by the best smith may not shoot..................it may be the load, the bullet, primer, scope, scope mounts or some intangible factor we cannot define.
What really counts is what happens on paper in competition. To me that is the true measure of the barrel makers ability to produce barrels that shoot.
Which is why an equipment list is usually my first port of call when shopping for equipment.
$$$$ are impotant and I simply cannot afford to take a punt and try to make a barrel (or scope, action, stock etc) work, I will buy what is in the top 20 and within my budget and readily available to buy.
Just my 2 cents on giving myself the very best chance of shooting to the limits of my shooting ability
Hope this helps
Cheerio Geoff
