#1 Postby SunnyCoast 5r » Mon Apr 18, 2016 8:46 pm

Looking at new F class scopes...any options I should consider?
My thinking is the Nightforce Comp 15-55x.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Well you have several options. The Nightforce is obviously one and I know a few people running them who are very happy. Other options include March, who sit atop many F-class rifles, hand made in Japan and top quality. Sightron's SV 10-50 is another worth considering as well as Kahles 10-50. I'll probably look very hard at the Kahles later this year.

Thanks willow, I hadn't even considered the Kahles. I'll check it out.

The NF and March etc...are all very good. Take a look at the new Vortex Optics scope. We've got two on order. Just waiting for the first production ones to get finished. They have a several pre production ones out being used and getting good reviews. It's a 15-60x.

The new Vortex looks very similar to the NF Comp in terms of specs. Might have a better warranty? So if price is slightly lower then this could be very interesting. I look forward to seeing reviews, particularly in relation to mechanical and optical performance.

Hi Alan
As previously advised on this scope in another post - spoke with Australian / NZ distributor last month and as of then there were 2500 of these back ordered in U.S. Expect a lot more by now?
When they were announced we placed an order for a couple including one to assess.
We were told August at that time - 3 months ago.
I doubt we will see any in OZ this year?
From initial pricing - roughly a few hundred $ cheaper than 15-55 NF.
Although I personally believe the NF Comp II to be the best performer optically I keep saying I am unhappy with the FCR reticle which is the best they offer currently.
It would be good to see a competitor of equal optics, reliable tracking and possibly better reticle.
At a price where one could include a quality set of rings with the scope cf bare scope only?

Shane,

Personally I'm very happy with the Comp, but then I prefer the plane cross-hair, and BTW rarely use it above 30X. In fact on the last day at the Vic Queens it stayed on 15X. I'm mainly taking an interest in the Vortex to be able to advise others on the options. There are too many people around who will tell you what they have is the best - I think new shooters should be given all the facts. And you are well placed to do that because you sell all the common brands.

See you at Townsville.

Hey Alan
Thanks and that is great news that you are making it to Townsville!
We couldn't make it to Bendigo unfortunately as we did not have gear up and running after leaving stocks in the U.S. Last year.
All going to plan we will be back up to scratch for the NQRA Queens.
Just have a heap of ammo to load beginning in a weeks time.
Then do it all over again for the Nationals!

Are you aware that Mackay has a shoot on the weekend before the NQRA as well.
Vicki and I plan to try and make that as well this year as we have not shot competition since early Nov.

Cheers
Shane

Yes, Alan, very pleased to see you intend to be in Townsville for the NQRA shoot.

The Clermont shoot is a also week before the Mackay one which is itself before the NQRA Queens.

For anyone traveling north for the winter, these constitute a chain of events worth following if you are a dedicated shooter.
Also an ideal way for Alan to use up all of his good projectiles before arriving in Townsville.

Quite a few Southeners do this and the ranges provide a place to camp.

Peter,

I'll be using my good projectiles at the SARA Queens, and will be relying on scrounging some more from all you FNQ hoarders ( no opened boxes thank you) :D . Actually fingers crossed I'm hoping for a few morsels from QRA's next shipment.

I have owned 2 vortex scopes of the same model.

The first was in their early days and was satisfactory and OK.
The second a few years later was very poor. Tracked fine but optics was milky and never sharp.
I was extremely happy to get rid of it and purchase another sightron.

Sightron makes a great scope for the money .
Not saying it's a march or a Nf Comp but for a poor man the few sightrons I have owned have offered no bs reliable performance and glass I would happily take the Pepsi challenge with a Nf BR scope with.

If it gets to the point where a sightron costs as much as an NF 'Benchrest' model (1500-1600) I would pick the NF anyday. With the 12-42 model you can win anything........ The comp model is better, but either will work fine IMHO. I also owned a couple of sightrons, but when i bought them they were under 900. they are good scopes but the NF BR is better.
