I think a 30x magnification is the minimum for f class to allow you to aim off around the x ring.... I have a NF 8-32x56 NXS with 1/8 clicks on my 308 (similar to yours) but i would not like to use it hunting.... I have QRW rings, quick release, and i would put a lower power smaller scope on it for hunting... something like an SHV 3-10x42. (nightforce i mean) of course cheaper would be fine, maybe a bushnell.

I use only one scope for F Class and it's a NF NXS 5.5-22X56 MOAR-T Reticle. I never touch the windage dial except on my home range when I get my 100 yard zero on a still day.

I would suggest somewhere in the vicinity of 99% of F Class shooters have many bullets that go to places on the target beyond what the scopes resolution is giving them ! It's not Benchrest. It's about managing a whole bunch of things well often in difficult circumstances.

Many other things matter a hell of of a lot more to me than spending moonbeams on the scope. Having said that my 'perfect ' wish list scope for F Class would be a FFP March 5-40 with the FMA-2 reticle except I can't afford one. YET.

would use same scope for hunting-hips and back are shot so no walking .it would be used from a set position so weight isn`t a problem

All good. The Remmy 700 option will likely not get u in the same league as the more serious all-out competition rifles but ya can still have a lot of fun and learn heaps.

If u do get a more serious scope then u can swap it onto a more serious F Class ready rifle later anyway. What ya mostly need in a scope is one that's rugged and reliable and allows u enough resolving power to aim where u want to. I like my scope to have the hash marks on the horizontal bar as I like to hold off for the wind and never touch the windage dial. Just keeps it simpler. But each to his own. Regards Rob Kerridge

Well if your not walking around then anything between the NF NXS 5.5-22X56 MOAR-T and the NF NXS 8-32X56 MOAR-T would get the job done.... as i said personally i find scopes with less than 30x maximum a bit annoying for target but thats coming from an F open background. And it depends on the conditions of course. Also look at the other tactical scopes like bushnell they seem pretty good value and have a wide zoom range. My NF does not have zero stop but does have 1/8 clicks. personal preference.

Also shooting styles matter a lot. some people are winders, some aim off. The tactical turrets are good for winders, the MOAR reticle is good for aiming off.

Sightron have a good name. The Vortex GE is a well rated scope too. Maybe do some online research on whether a FFP or a SFP scope is what u need , then at least you've got that big question out of the way first.

I have not tried the golden eagle, but i like the nightforce more than the sightron. its a bit clearer and more solid (and more expensive) .. maybe on a range day get a look through a few...

Started FClass with a Rem700 5r 24 inch barrel with a Bushnell TAC Elite 6-24 x 50. This is also my hunting rig (rarely get out with it). I suspect the rifle shoots better than my modest scores would suggest.
Changed to a used Nightforce NXS 8-32 x 56 and the jump in clarity was amazing. Better suited to FClass but still ok in the paddock if you don’t mind the weight.

Several people using similar rigs at my club but the standard stocks are not great for FClass. GRS or MDT style stocks are a quick fix. Some people just add a bag runner that you can remove when hunting.

After several years I just had a FClass rifle made up...ultimately you need a longer & heavier barrel with a good stock to get the required accuracy.

But your 308 will work and you can enjoy the challenge!

Just wanted to add I am now also using a Nightforce Comp 15-55 (and love it just like a very large proportion of FClass shooters). Looked through most others except the Vortex GE...wasn’t out when I got the NF.

I also find I rarely use less than 40x.

Agree totally sunnycoast. I have the Nightforce Comp 15-55 on my barnard and its perfect. Usually used at 40-55x. But I also have the Nightforce NXS 8-32 x 56 on my savage and I like that too. Its a better scope for some non-range shooting and still has adequate magnification for f class.

I found my scores jumped a few points when going from a NF BR 32* to the NF comp being able to resolve within the X ring made the difference. I know I could of been using a different technique (framing or setting up on on other parts of the target but to be able to see more clearly helped me.

yes exactly. When you are blessed with a good f open rifle, and conditions permit, you can shoot on 55X all day and pick your spot inside the x ring

but for the rem you mentioned i saw today a 5.5-22xmodel:
https://www.usedguns.com.au/Product.aspx?p=125604
(it is prob the non zero stop model, and its 2nd focal plane, 1/4 clicks)
