tell me about tuners for fclass

#1 Postby bruce moulds » Wed May 09, 2018 4:32 pm

i have avoided these, always believing that good tuning negates them.
now might be the time to delve further into them.
any info and opinions gratefully received.
keep safe,
bruce.

Good question Bruce. My question re this topic would be does say Derek Rodgers use one ? I ask this because unless a "big league" shooter consistently uses and wins at a high level and recommends them, then until the proper science/testing comes out I shall remain sceptical.

Trouble is with my above rant is that of course the same shooter could conceivably do as much winning without a tuner ?

What say if tuners got banned for F Class, would the scores come down ? Or would the same guys win with the same scores ?

Perhaps I'm interfering with your the way you've framed the question Bruce ? I don't mean to.

My experience with tuners is that they will not replace tuning on load and seating but are good for that final " fine tune "
The best tuner in the world will not tune a poor load / seating combination.

What an incredibly scientific approach.... =D>

Trust me, tuners are rubbish, don't bother with them!!!

Tuners have nothing on a good pimping job Bruce.

THE answers are I suspect too hard Bruce ........... I mean too hard to ever 'prove' conclusively one way or the other ?

As Bill Shehane apparently said ... "if you THINK it's better, it probably is".

well brad,
a good pimping job will convinve the opposition that you are really proud of and happy with your rifle and defiant.
this has been known to convince some competition that you might actually have reason to be proud.
and that reason might be that the goddam thing might shoot.
psychology is a powerful tool.
however in some circumstances, a tuner might simply be a pimping tool in itself.

bruce.

if you are using a tuner as a pimping aid, it might be possible to muddy the waters by using the counter pimp method.
this would involve pimping the tuner itself, creating even more doubt in the opposition.
brett might have some stickers for his tuners which might fit on one.
or a a psycodelic paint job on it.
or just woodgrain ceracote.
keep safe,
bruce.

Hahaha, there's a little sarcasm going on in this thread.

Rob and Bruce, I didn't think there was any doubt these days that tuners do work if set up correctly, if the rifles light enough to install one for its class and if the shooters competent and pro-active in using it.

A tuners not going to fix a bad load, poor set-up or a bad wind call, it has to be the last thing you perfect to see the gains.

There's plenty of big league shooters consistently using them domestically and abroad.

Your "last thing" idea works for me too DenisA.

Perhaps they do shrink the group a little. BUT so does a bloody great long list of other things you can do with your prep for a comp !!!
