Re: tell me about tuners for fclass
the truth is thatlower light shooters took to pimping rifles in the belief that 60.10 was impossible to achieve there.
pimped rifles were the only other thing left to us.
this year 3 x 60.10s have been achievd there in quick succession, so interest in pimping has waned rapidly.
my cunning mind is formulating a tuner with something like a sail or wind rudder to deflect the barrel into the wind.
this of course would have to be calibrated for the b.c. and velocity of wind to deliver bullets yo the x ring with a dead on hold, and adjustable for different distances.
keep safe,
bruce.

If all you have at hand to tune a rifl....
Actually, I’m just going to stay quiet, remember what I said, tuners are rubbish

Hello.
Bruce.
This site is awash with very informative Subjects on barrel tuners etc. Samples;
"Load development for positive compensation - Barrel Tuner" 22-2-16
"Load tune vs barrel tune" 16.10.16
"Positive Compensation" 18.11.16
"Barrel Tuners" 16.4.17
Search "barrel tuners" for more.
NEVER think that a tuner will convert a "lazy" load into anything other than what it is; a waste of time, money and spirit, at home and on the range. Take special note of Barry's post: he makes tuners!
Gyro.
Rod Davies.
Yes.
Rod's ability to develop methods of enhancing accuracy and his dedication to implement them, takes him beyond any F Open shooter in the world, past or present. He crossed the bridge at Arnhem before that fool Montgomery was stumped when asked what he wanted for breakfast.
Regards,
John Tracey.

Re: tell me about tuners for fclass
Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong here:
Pretty sure tuners were first used on 22 target rifles to get the best out of fixed factory ammo.
If you go to any comp my guess is your ammo will be loaded before hand.
Just like 22 ammo you won’t easily change it.
So I like the idea of having an option to bring my fixed ammo back into tune if needed.
Which way to wind it is another question

Re: tell me about tuners for fclass
thanks so far.
hope for more.
a question that comes to mid is should the tuner extend past the end of the barrel, or does it not matter?

No they are just a gimmick and a means so the barrel doesn't slip out of my hands when carrying my rifle to the mound !
Don't bother trying it everyone !, waste of time !

Cam's idea of a fixed weight and tuning the load to that harmonics is another option !

The 2 x 60.10's shot at "The House of Pain" during the Queens both used tuners. Like Jason said don't waste your time, tuners definitely are just a gimmick !!!

Re: tell me about tuners for fclass
so matt,
which tuner would you advise against most strongly?
do you hate rubber ones more than pure metal?
do you dislike ones that extend past the muzzle more than those that don't?

O-Rings are by far a better method of tuning than “tuners” trust our retired national treasure.

Re: tell me about tuners for fclass
In 2015 when Mark F came over here to shoot at Trentham I was very lucky to be making for him on the score card and sat right beside him with my spotting scope through the main shoot. Obviously I watched every shot. I was shooting FTR then but was soon enough to see how far ahead of anyone here that guy was !
His gun had no tuner and through the 3 days of the Queens comp I remember he fired only 2 'feral ' shots and that was at 1000 yards. He said to me when he got up that he reckoned he probably hadn't set his rests up quite right. I'll bet he knew just how and what to pack into those rests though !! Wished I really knew about that kind of stuff because I suspect it's VERY important.
At the shorts he shot the spotter out numerous times and could always see through his scope right as it happened as the bullet disintegrated the spotter ! I was stoked watching shooting like that.
I can't remember now if there was one of those rubber Limbsaver things jammed on his barrel but when u look on the main NRANZ website and scroll along through the pics a little to the pic of him with his rifle it looks like he had one of them rubber gizmos on his barrel ?
I'm reading with interest here and see a "big league " shooter has jumped in with a tongue-in-cheek remark. Guess he uses one too. I've got the dimensioned drawings for the EC Tuner which is very simple. I would have no problem machining one up. Is that one any good. Guess EC reckons so because didn't he out shoot everybody on the last day at the longs for the FCWC in Canada ?
The skie's the limit for the kind of stuff u can create to try on ya gun ain't it. That's cool. Regards Rob K.

Re: tell me about tuners for fclass
I know of many rifles without tuners that can shoot 10 Xs. Having said that, I will not say tuners are of no use.
But I see a lot of people who simply use them as another excuse in the book of 1001 excuses - damn - it was not my fault - my rifle must have gone out of tune.
The one thing that really muddies the waters is that many think a Tuner will somehow magically cure a poor rifle and ammo.
You need to get everything spot on before playing with a tuner.
