6.5x47 Lapua Free Bore with 130gn Nosler RDF
I am currently building a rifle in 6.5x47Lapua for F-Open/Benchrest/500Fly (Tikka CTR action/magazine, Maddco 28" heavy barrel, Bell & Carlson competition stock). Planning on running the 130gn Nosler RDF projectile because of the high BC and I can get them in bulk for a reasonable price. Unsure at this point what my OAL would be, wondering if anyone has any recommendation for freebore. I have read a few internet posts and people seem to recommend anything from 0.040" to 0.200".. is there any advantage to running more or less freebore? How would one work out what the optimum freebore is?

My suggestion is seat the projectile you would like to shoot, in an empty case so the bearing surface is about 2/3 of the way down the neck.. Send that to who ever you are getting the reamer built.
I would also suggest thinking about lead angle depending on the projectile you wish to shoot..
Cheers

You will need to batch sort those bullets, they are not as consistent in construction as Berger and you'll end up with fliers if you don't sort them based on experience with the 6mm 105gr pills.

Willow I have a heap of 142s rdf that I am planning to run in my 260. When you say batch sort are you talking by weight or bearing surface?

I'd be checking both. I've tried the 6mm 105gr pills and will only use what I have left for running in future barrels. They're a good looking bullet but I've found them to be inconsistent with constant fliers, despite the high BC.
