Barrel twist rate

#1 Postby kram » Tue Aug 08, 2017 12:21 pm

Looking for suggestions and reasons for, different twist rates in a 30" 308 barrel to shoot 155 grn progectiles . I'm thinking of just going with 1in 11.

Im running 1:11 with 155.5 bergers and it works well. this also gives me the option to have optimum twist rate for the 155 hybrids which shoot equally as good in my rifle.

I see John Widden won that big shoot in the USA the other day with the 155 hybrids in a 10 twist barrel so that option clearly works too.

I have fitted a number of 10" twist match winning barrels for F-Std rifles over the years, including four Queens prizes. I shoot a 30/06AI in F-Open with a 10" twist barrel. This rifle regularly groups in half the X ring with 155.5 Bergers & holds two range records in club shoots.

I am also using a 10 twist barrel in a 308 at the moment and it works very well. Also using berger 155.5s. If you were toying with the idea of ftr as well this would be a safer bet.
