6.5x47 FIRE FORMING

#1 Postby twotwothree » Fri Mar 10, 2017 1:51 pm

Hello,
I have just brought 100 new brass for my 6.5x47 and was wondering if there is any load development that can be done with new brass or is it a waste of time due to the brass not been fire formed. After the first fire I will be neck sizing only. Also is there anything you do with new brass before you load it. Thanks for any replies.

Work up to 37.5 gr of 2208 with the Berger 130VLD, you should find good accuracy even while using fresh brass.

I have found virgin brass to be very accurate in my 6.5x47 and would use it in club competition or midrange OPM.

If you want it to be a little more consistent maybe you could run a 6.5mm expander mandrel through it and then size it back down with the appropriate bushing. I have found it to be bloody accurate straight out of the blue box.

As for neck sizing, I use a Forster bushing bump die on mine with up to 15firings and no need for the Body die. I personally prefer to either FL size every time or at least use a bump die.

ben_g is right, just load and shoot it. It's not a fussy cartridge to get working well at all. 2208 or 2209 will work well.
