Hi
I have been using BR2's in a 280AI. I have seen on this site people saying the are running 58 - 59 gr 2213sc, I loaded to 52 - 55 gr of 2213sc and blew the ass out of the primers. I have been told that the primers might be the issue. Away at the moment so don't have the batch sorry.
Is this what you are referring to?

The problem is that over a week I have witnessed and heard of primer failure in VIC and 2 incidences in SA
the SA incidences were both fired from 2 different rifles 1 a Savage only 300 rounds old (BR4)
and a custom Stolle FTR rifle that has just had a new firing pin assembly replaced in the last few months BR4

What do you mean by failures? Is it fail to fire of primers cracking? I have had CCIs fail to fire about 1 in 10 a few years back, but not heard of issues lately.

Failure to detonate even after re cocking and trying again
If this is an isolated incident, then no worries I’m trying to determine if there is a crook batch out there
at this point it doesn’t seem so

I have had a couple of these style of misfire issues, but, it was not the fault of the primer.

I found that my jam had turned into a jump over time and was exacerbated by excessive shoulder bump (my 2 thou bump had grown to 4). This combination allowed the bullet to move forward slightly (only a couple of thou) in the case when the firing pin struck the primer and this was enough to change the dynamics of the strike, so it was no longer a sharp strike as required.

As you can see, there was not a huge change in any of the individual components, but, combined it was enough to cause issues.

CCI 450 mag primers appear to be made with comparatively
hard cup material from what I have observed and so usually take more pressure to seat. From my experience the first seating with new brass is tight but easy. Successive seatings are actually harder so making sure that the primer is where it should be in relationship to the case is important. I have never had as misfire with 450's. 8)
