223 quicky.

#1 Postby scott/r » Fri Dec 23, 2016 11:45 am

Just a quick question. What sort of speeds should I be looking for with 80.5 bergers in a 26" barrel with 24.0 grn 2206h. Does 2990 average sound about right?

I used 25gns of 2206H in 30" barrel and got 3000fps using Lapua brass with 80gn Sierras. So I'm not sure you would achieve that speed in a 26" barrel with 24gns of powder. If that's a chronyed speed? I'd double check your chrony.

Too cool. I thought that may have been a bit high. My chrony was was actually reading 2900 average, but last time I used it it was about 90 fps slow according to a mates labradar. I had bit of fiddle with it this morning and put a decent battery in it so hopefully it's come good. Thanks.

For what its worth, I shot a 223 ages ago and found that to achieve the highest speeds required the use of a tougher/thicker metal BenchRest primer else the primers would punch through.
Same with a 6 BR.
