Remingtin Action

#1 Postby Old Trev-39 » Sun Nov 06, 2016 7:40 pm

Hi All,
I have a sleeved Remington 700 action that I was thinking of barrelling with a 30" x 1.25" parallel in .284 Win. Was wondering if the short tennon length that the Rem. has would it be suitable. The sleeve is 1.5" longer than front of action. Also would bedding about 1.0" of barrel in front of sleeve help support the weight of the barrel. Have asked around the north here and getting conflicting answers. Thought I would put this question out there for more experienced opinions and it may also help some one else out.
Cheers,
Trevor.

I had thought about it but my conclusion was to stick with a hv taper at most. That never failed as long as I had it.

This is not a Remington but I thought I'd throw it out there.

I run Savages at the moment. They only have close to 3/4" tennon length threaded in to the action. I have been running 1.125" straight profile, 32" long barrels that weigh 3.6kg (.284W) without any issue. I've run 6BR, .284W and .300wsm in that configuration. No bedding under the barrel. They don't move.

You could run a barrel block and then it wouldn't matter.

Hi Trev
I don't see an issue running a straight 1.25" barrel off a sleeved Rem, provided it was pillar bedded, I also see no need to bed any part of the barrel.
I run a custom 1.35" action similar in profile to a Rem 40x (solid bottom) but with twin ports and use straight barrels with no ill effects.
Regards
Matt

I have a sleeved Remington built by Dave Kerr and his advice was there should be no issues with running a parallel barrel..

Also pillar bedded preferred as Matt P stated.

Hi all,
Thanks for the information, it is much appreciated. I will go ahead with this project. The sleeve has recoil lug machined in manufacture and is pillar bedded.
Again thanks,
Trevor.
