used stocks

#1 Postby westernsky » Thu Feb 18, 2016 4:19 pm

G'day all!
I posted an ad in the "for sale, wanted" section without much luck (which i was partially expecting due to it being unusual).
But that's ok.
So i thought I'd ask here if anyone knows of any dealers/shops etc here in aus that have used stocks available.
I'm looking for one to suit a Remington 700 LA in right hand. It doesn't have to be pretty or of any particular style it just needs to be able to accommodate a heavy barrel.
I'm rebuilding my rifle with a new action and barrel which means i need to reapply for an addition to my license.
Unfortunately the gunsmith I'm using won't put it through with my current stock as the forend covers the barrel (it's an xlr) and licensing don't like the look of them. As childish as that is we are at their mercy.
I've done some googling for stocks but all i can find is new and I'd rather not spend another 1 to 2 thousand on stock i won't end up using.
Cheers guys
Happy shooting
Brenton.

Do you know anyone that you might be able to borrow one from just to get it through rego?

Cheers for the replies guys!

John, thanks for the links, I'll keep checking their site. Most of those were for a short action of which there are heaps around. If i could use my original sporter weight synthetic stock i would but the barrel channel is way too small.

BAT, unfortunately I don't know anyone with a LA rifle i can borrow a stock from, seems they're not that popular. Guess that's the price you pay for wanting an unusual cartridge! Haha!

Thanks again for the help, it is always greatly appreciated!
Happy shooting!
Brenton.

There's something strange going on.

My first message was in my Outbox when I checked after reading your post, so I set up to send again & the first message went sent but the second went to my outbox.

You wouldn't happen to be choked up there would you?
