I've been shooting F Class Standard for approximately 6 months.
I'm still not sure what the F stands for

Is it Free
Please enlighten me.

That answer is correct for Canada.
But in Australia it stands for FREE and has been refered to in the Rule book since the original rules were drawn up in 1997. Previously to that it was known as Long Range Precission Target shooting. ( too big a mouthfull for any rule book) Any similarity to the Canadian name is purely coincidental.
