280 ackley

#1 Postby bruce moulds » Thu May 04, 2006 10:16 pm

any advice on best 280 brass for 280 ackley.
would 7mm/06 acklet offer better brass options?
what about 7x64 ackley using rws brass? would this work on a 308 boltface?
perhaps the 284 win offers the simplest option.
if one already had a set of custom 280 rem dies , where would this std case fit into the overall scheme of things?
is there any hard, good quality 270 brass that would suit any 7mm jobs?

Bruce,
I currently use the 9.3 brass in my 280 AI and it is able to give me 2930 fps with the 58 grains of Re22 and 175 SMKs. No problems with the primer pockets so far. But if i was to do it again i would go to the RWS 270 brass as it is a bit longer overall and should return about 3000 fps + with the 175s and is a bit stronger than the Lapua stuff.
Good choice of cartridge Bruce as it is so easy to get along with. The short fat way is overated as i have been at the 7/300 WSM place a couple of times and found it disappointing.
