difference between 2209 & 2213sc

#1 Postby saum2 » Mon Mar 11, 2013 11:43 am

I know where these powders sit on the burn rate chart, but how much difference is there and what effect does it have? I'm using a 6mm with 105gn Bergers & 115gn Dtac's, Is the 2209 better suited to the lighter projectile? I have both powders.
Any thoughts on the issue.

All relative to the case its being used in, the amount used, primers used to spark it off... Otherwise there is two different labels but the same black bottles

I have done some testing with a 6x47L using 105 Lapua Scenars and both 2209 & 2213SC.
In my tests a load of 39.5grns of 2209 generated an average speed of 3070fps on that day in that rifle.
Using the same rifle on the same day I generated speeds of 3050fps using 42.5 grns of 2213SC (this was not a compacted load)
The brass used was Lapua obviously and the primers were Federal 205 small rifle.
I would say that the 2213SC should provide lower pressures but the trade off is more powder used. The 2213SC being larger both in amount and size gives 100% load density or close to.
I would certainly try the 2213SC with the 105 and 115 bullets.
I have found no issues using standard primers with 2213SC in the 6x47 Lapua case.

I'm using the 6xc, so far i've tried just the 13sc with promising results. The XC case is a bit larger than the 6x47 case. The 13sc seems to fill the case more which is probably what i'm looking for.
I haven't chronographed anything yet but it seems i have good grouping with the 13sc with 39.5gns & a similar group using 42gns all with the 115Dtacs. With 42gns of 2213sc the bolt lift is fine but showing signs of nearing max with the primers indented a bit. Am trying the 105gn Bergers next and trying to stick with the same powder if possible. One thing I have found with 2213sc is that it is more difficult to weight out being larger stick size.
