Dont worry Alan, I wont be upping my max load by 2 grains anytime soon, it sounded pretty radical to me :) Although there is room to move there. The fact is, if I cant find a reliable node this weekend, around 43gr, this barrel is headed for tomato stakedom ''

And the little savage will get a broughton or shilen SS barrel and probably become a 6BR

Mate I used a 260AI to win several matches (1000 yd BR and Fly) set a small group national record at Fly and 1000yd day agg record with it as well.
47 grns 2209 with Lapua 123 Scenars and Fed 210 primers (cases were Norma 243) changed to Lapua 260 and load changed to 45.5 grns 2209 accuracy remained outstanding.
I found the 260AI easy to load for rifle was a Stolle Big Bore, Maddco 8.5 twist barrell

Yeh I wouldnt give up on the 260, but that barrel sounds like a lemon. Its pretty hard to expect a factory rifle to be capable of f class accuracy straight up. Have you had the action bedded as well? Arent savages critical on action screw tension? Theres probably more to it than just being a crap barrel.

I am giving up on the 260 Remington idea. The factory barrel is very poor and i cannot tune it better than 1 MOA. You get the odd .5 moa group but then it opens up with the same load.
The are a lot of tooling marks on the rifling and its still coppering up. I have bought a 6mm broughton match barrel to turn the little savage LRP into a 6BR. .... For longer ranges I think I will go to a 284 WIN next year in a heavier stock.

cheers Andrew
