.223, how fast!?

#1 Postby Chris S » Sat Jul 28, 2012 7:13 pm

G'day All,

A bloke that has started shooting at our club claims
his .223 80 grain SMK loads are travelling at up to
3200 feet per second ( custom action and barrel ).
That seems a bit far fetched to me, is that speed possible
from the .223 Rem or is he just having a lend of himself?

What is the practical upper speed limit for a 80 grain .223 load
in this game?

cheers,
Chris 8)

You can never carry too much ammo...
unless you are drowning or on fire.

To give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe his chrono is having a lend of itself?

My 223 load runs around 3400fps. But I cropped the 30 inch barrel back to 26" and shoot 50gr noslers in it  Best thing I have ever done to that barrel.

Crikey! Christel is only shooting at 3250 with her 22-6,5x47 with the 80SMK and H4831SC behind it, I suspect it could go a tad faster however it needs to stay UK MoD range legal at 3280fps..
