Burris Rings

#1 Postby Cameron Mc » Sat Mar 18, 2006 7:44 pm

Just wondering if anyone is using the Burris scope rings with inserts that allow elevation and windage adjustment of the scope body.
In other words a tapered rail is not required.
I am finding these tapered rails to suit various diameter actions hard to source and expensive when found.
Anyone out there making their own? I have a lathe and am thinking of making a flycutter to taper Weaver rails.

Thanks, Cameron

Cameron

One piece tapered rails are available from the SARA store but are flat based so need suitable milling to fit contour of action, these have about 20 moa taper. I think about $125 but don't quote me on this. One of our guys had 10 made up but the end result was not a lot cheaper.

The VRA has a selection of tapered rails to suit a varity of actions. If they dont have one to suit it can be made up in a short time

Hope this helps

Thanks Tony, I see some of the US shooters use them in place of tapered bases etc.

Burris Rings

The Burris rings may be a solution, but depending on your action type, you may not be able to get the scope mounted far enough forward to give the correct eye relief when shooting prone using Weaver type "off the shelf" mounts.

Most purpose built rails will allow the scope to be mounted well forward for prone use.
