Feeding the 6BR

#1 Postby johnk » Tue Mar 20, 2012 9:44 am

I'm a tad gun shy since my neck surgery & I'm setting up a 6BR instead of the good old .308. I have some 108 Bergers to start off with & will be giving them a Boron Nitrite overcoat.

What powder type is being used for the 105-108 grainers? A very general indication of load wouldn't go astray.

Any hints would also be appreciated.

John

Hi John
30 grains of 08 should do nicely, just a side question what action are you using, the reason I ask is the BR works best in the "upper window" and are prone to blanking primers if the firing pin to bolt clearance is "generous".

Matt, Still got the Millennium with the little pin & fish's fundament firing pin hole, but I know what you mean.

Plus 1 for Matts load - 108's seated 5 thou jump and 30.4 grains 2208, BR4 for me. They also liked a jam in my chamber.

the 65gr vmax go well.... on furry targets at least.

Most BR's that I have seen run 30gr of 2208 and 107SMK's pretty darn impressively.

Anything I have used 108s in has prefered .010" jam, but I have had to up the load .4-.6gns if using HBN to get the same speed as bare bullets.
