Is there any clear difference or preference between the two?
Loading in the 308 with lapua brass, federal 210GM primers and the 155gr HBC's.
New barrel is not far off and Im using 2206H for now in a 26" factory barrel with good results. Would like to standardize my powders though, as I can use 2206H in my 20 practical, 223 with 80gr loads and 308. The 2208 is too slow for the 20 practical thats all.
Does 2208 offer anything in the 223 and 308 cartridges that 2206H doesnt do?
2206H or 2208

2208 is supposedly a more stable powder but 2206H (H4895 in USA) still has an enormous temperature range.
For example, in a standard -15C, 21C and 52C ammunition test, worst velocity variance is ~100 and best ~30fps.
That is temperature of the ammunition, not the barrel.

Yep, I use 44.5 of 06H with HBC's and manage to win a few here and there. Doesn't seem any more fickle than 08, the fickle bit is the HBC's seating depth.
