Tikka T3 Sporter and F Class?

#1 Postby Chris S » Sun Mar 13, 2011 12:47 pm

G'day All,

Recently saw the new Tikka T3 Sporter and it seems to include
some features making it suitable for F class i.e. forearm rail,
adjustable cheekpiece and good choice of chamberings like 223 Rem,
308 Win. plus 6.5x55 Swede and 260 Rem. Anyone using of of these
in competition? Looks like decent entry rifle to start out with, any opinions?

You can never carry too much ammo...

I can't tell you much about the T3 Sporter but one of our club members shot 98 & 95 at 500m with his 30-06 T3 Super Varmint yesterday.

The Sporter stock appears to be designed to be shot more for offhand or prone than off bags & rests.

There is an aftermarket aluminium chassis available from KRG for the T3 which would be a better proposition for F-Class.

Edit: There is also an aftermarket stock put out by Wild Dog, so if you were able to get a cheap T3 and fit and re barrel it, it would probably be cheaper than the cost of the Sporter and would ride the bags/rest a bit better.

I would like to see the T3 available as a single shot. Now that would be a good thing.

The one downside of the new Tikka model is the $2900 price tag ! that's a fair chunk of a custom build by a top gunsmith. Certainly you could get an Omark with premium SS barrel, plus have change towards a good scope, or buy brass, dies etc to suit. The only con is the lead time to get it all together.
