Hornday 105gn Amax's?

#1 Postby Jagumba » Fri Nov 04, 2005 12:13 pm

I am looking to get the benefit of other peoples experiences with the Hornady 105gn Amax projectiles in the 6BR. I have tried 105gn Lapua Scenar's and 107gn Sierra's (only at 100m while sighting in thus far). Has anyone used the Amax out to 900 / 1000 yards and if so how do they compare (generally) to the Lapua and Sierra. The Hornady's seem to be a fair bit cheaper and easier to get.

Cheers
Matt

Thanks Tony - the question was driven more from an economy perspective seeing as AMax's are advertised for half the price of Lapua's. I havent done much testing with loads at all at this stage but have both SMK's and Lapua's here. For $25 i might as well test the AMax's as well. Just after some opinions before i test the Hornady's - thanks for your info.

I havent tried 2209 but thanks for the load. The firing pin has been bushed on the BR already thanks to a switched on gunsmith!

Cheers
Matt

hi Matt,

Just looking at this tread, Iam using the A-MAX. At 900 yards the A-MAX gave groups of around 7 inches, so I put the loads over the chrony, I had an ES of 40 fps by seating .20 deeper it came to 19 fps. I dont know if this has helped the long range grouping at all. My 6mmBR will group under 1 inch at 300 yards with the A-MAX.

I hope this helps
Firepower usally means an increased number of misses per minute. 50 misses are not firepower. One hit is firepower
