Okay guys - I currently have a 24x Lynx on my 6BR (1" tube). I have a 20MOA tapered base fitted to the rifle. I am looking at upgrading the scope to a Nightforce. Which scope and which power do you recommend to replace the Lynx?
Cheers

8-32 has 50moa elevation and the 12-42 has 40moa. The double dot reticle is called NP-2DD. Besides the elevation issue- which isn't much of a concern with either- you absolutely wont need more than x32 for F-class standard or open. I'm going to buy the 12-42 with the NP-2DD reticle because I want to shoot Fly and you need to see bullet holes at 500m. I curently have a 8.5-25 Leupold wich apart from upper end magnification, I am very happy with.

ps obviously with a 20moa base 40-50 moa elevation will be MORE than enough

You would be much better off with a 8-32 for the extra elevation adjustment and using a good quality spotting scope to spot bullet holes. What calibe are you going to use?? Anything under 7mm you will be hard pressed to see, especially if the mirage runs hard as it often does.
Just my 2 cents worth

Elevation wont be a problem. I'm having a 6.5/284 built and the rings have 20moa built in- certainly not going to need 60moa to go out to 1000yrds- currently shooting a 300winmag and only use about 17moa from 300m out to 800m. Can't afford a good spotting scope as well so going for the extra magnification in the scope its self. I realise the problems- and benefits- of mirage which is why I generally shoot F-class at no more than x20. x42 might JUST give me a chance to see the holes. Where ever I can I'd always try and shoot with a spotter as well to call the shots or at least the trace.

Hi Matt
I have 2 X Nightforce BR models
One is 5.5 X 22 and the other is 12 X 42 last week at 600metres I could see 30cal bullet holes on the white of course weather seems to predict when you can see the holes at long range rather than power I mostly shoot with it set on 36X using NP-2DD reticle I do like the 1/8th clicks but would be good if it had side parallax knob.
With a 20mMOA tapered base the 284W Sited in at 300 there is 25moa of elevation left that will get me to 1000m just!! and 15MOA till it bottoms out
Maybe 25 or 30 MOA base may be better
Great scopes and warranty service
the resale isn’t bad either
P.S. the difference between NXS and BR is about a grand alot to pay for a side knob
Cheers

Hi Richard
As you know we have 2 NXS scopes but I also have a BR 8-32 mounted on the .300 and find the front parallax adjustment to be more precise over the side focus. From a convenience point of view I agree with you but its a small issue.
The only other comment I will make is my shootin eye is quite weak and although the NXS has quite a lot of diopter travel the BR does not leaving me with a slightly blured reticle (perfect with the other eye)
This of course only affects those rejects like me

MBRC F-Class standard ... and proud of it!
