Cautionary warning

#1 Postby Ken L » Mon Aug 25, 2008 5:00 pm

It has been discovered that a brand of Russiam made 55 grain HP 223 ammo on the market has copper washed STEEL projectiles.
There is no indication on the packet that the projectiles are steel only that the cases are steel.
They are not realy HP bullets even though they have a hole in the meplat. They have a open ended boat tail with the lead core exposed.
In a comparison test I fired a 55 gn Sierra into 3 telephone books and the remains of the projectile was retained in the third book in many small pieces.
When I fired one of the Russian projectiles into 3 books it went straight thru and buried itself in the ground. It took 6 telephone books to retain the projectile and it was found 3/4 of the way thru the 5th book
The recovered steel bullet picture not what one would expect from a hollow point bullet. Though good for barrel makers
