Just wondering what 5 shot group size during load development at 600yds do you feel is
Good enough to be competitive in F Open? I know 10 would be better but let’s start with 5.
Also I haven’t shot F Open for 20yrs.. it’s a very different game now.

1/4 MOA would be pretty good

Re: What makes you happy
Just look up scores Steve.
Reference the scores of top F-Class Open competitors with the target dimensions as per rules - eg. the X is 72mm/2.83inch, etc, etc
Then you can see what it takes performance wise "to be competitive" as you say.
For a reality check on the "my guns a 0.2MOA gun all day" garbage look up Aussie or US National Benchrest results.
Your question is pretty open and can only really be answered with other questions.
What is your personal expectation out of your system(rifle/ammunition/you)?
and with the reality now that high end components are very expensive
How much money do you have?

Hey Mark.. I agree with what you say about results but conditions play a big part of group size.
When testing or load development I’m looking for pretty calm conditions if possible.. and once a load is found see how it holds up when it gets a bit rough.
Personally I’d be satisfied with around the 1in at 600, as long as the load still performs at 1000.

.16 minute groups at 600 yards as an average, I've yet to see that. Regards Malcolm.

Re: What makes you happy
The question was ,what makes you happy,
1 inch does, nothing about average, go to a 500m fly shoot
And see what they shoot in good conditions, eye watering,
A lot less than 1 inch at 500m, not every target, but thats what
the rifles are capable of, ill take 2.5 inches at 600 yards anyway
I carnt shoot for shit now, but I realy enjoy fclass open

Re: What makes you happy
An item to remember in the different disciplines of center fire precision shooting is that the bench rest guys have two targets one is a sighter target that they can shoot on at any point in a match to verify a condition then go back to the for record target the score is then totaled on the for record target only. The range I shoot on at the moments in f class is very spongy like the 50 mm spikes don't reach a firm surface, the green ants are really bad, also much of our shooting is in full sunshine, get the fly shooter or bench rest guy to lay down in the above conditions and i doubt that they would be any better than the top f open shooters at the moment .
