Re: 300PRC Build
You post raises more questions than anything;
Why are you asking for build advice on an online forum and not referencing the guys you have chosen as your builder(GCPD) ?

Re: 300PRC Build
Hi you need to look at range energy limits the 300prc will be well above what you can use.

Heavy bullets, less wind drift..
Perhaps learning how to shoot first with something sensible = less wind effect

Re: 300PRC Build
Thanks Heritage5
this stops everything then.
300PRC is 3916 muzzle velocity and range limit is 3500 muzzle velocity .
Bye 300PRC idea, wondering if i can get in early on the 7 PRC

For what purpose and discipline? As an F-Open cartridge the 7 PRC is too big IMO to be effective - you're going to be over energy limits with 7mm projectiles (the 7 PRC holds a couple of grains advantage over a 300wsm, and that is obsolete in Australia at most ranges (I think you can still run one in Canberra). Your barrel life will also be horrendous.

Re: 300PRC Build
I saw good results today from a 7/6.5 PRC (wildcat) in F open, and my 6.5PRC in SH. Both well under the energy limits. I tried a 300WSM once with 230 bergers and what I remember most was getting a sore shoulder When its windy you still drop points, unless you read it....

Where are you getting 3916fps muzzle velocity from? A quick look at load data gives a a bullet in the 230gr range about 2950fps?

Re: 300PRC Build
Is there confusion here between muzzle velocity and muzzle energy?
All of my dealings with range approvals in NSW has been to do with energy.
Cheers

Muzzle velocity isn't the issue here , it's muzzle ENERGY!
You don't have to have some stonking magnum to exceed the 3500 ft/lb energy limit. e.g I have a .284W necked to 30 cal (30/284) that will easily push a 205gn Berger at 2800+ fps. thats 3568 ft/lb.
There is an easily to use calculator here >> https://www.ammunitiontogo.com/lodge/mu ... alculator/

Was intending to shoot F class open or Sport / Hunter open on a NRAA Range and progress into ELR.

Answer your question and cliff's
Yes confusing it and saying it around to wrong way.
The range is approved for
Muzzle velocity 3275
Muzzle energy 3500

Agree, im just starting to Realize that now, can easy go over energy limits.
NRAA is very restricted, more then i first realised.
I might look at SSAA where i can shoot 300 mag, 338LM ect ect

It's got nothing to do with NRAA. These are Statewide conditions mandated by the range approval

Re: 300PRC Build
Adam, spare a thought for fellow club members who would have to put up with the noise & blast from either of those calibres. I have had the misfortune of being in the presence of large calibre rifles being fired with a muzzle brake, not something I want to experience again. I don't want to discourage new members , there are other calibres that would meet range energy limits. There are some world class F Open shooters on this forum , ask their opinions.
