Weatherby 6.5 * 300 Mag beats all
I have recently been shooting a weatherby 6.5 * 300 magnum at the highest level in f open this cartridge combo is in standard form with the only alteration a thunder beast muzzle break, this makes it a pleasure to shoot but really upsets the old traditional shooters, it's topped with Hensoldt 6-24 * 72 mm SAM at 12 thousand dollars it is worth every sent and with rifle scope combo coming in at just under 20 K Shooting the Hornady A tip 153 gr at 3900 FPS the ballistic capabilities easily out shots the big 7mm in every way accuracy, precision, and performance.
My only regret is not shooting at the national level as it would outperform all other rifles on the range.

Apart from the fact that it exceeds the muzzle energy limit on most ranges in Australia, and muzzle breaks are usually not permitted, I'm sure it is a wonderful piece of machinery.

Do those A-tips strip their jackets off inside or outside the barrel?
10 mins shooting and 2 hrs cleaning?

They strip as they exit the muzzle thus increasing the bc, I believe a smoothbore is required

Can't get anywhere near 4200 fps using QuickLoad
153gn A-tip seated 0.25" into case
Stuff in a lazy 87gn 2209 for 100% case fill.
This gives a tolerable chamber pressure of 114,638 psi for those of us with a sleeved down howitzer for a MV of 3590fps
I can get 3700 fps using 85gn of 2208 but this raises the pressure to 148,000 psi and I don't want to damage the cannon.

Maybe the old traditional shooters knowledge, passed on to you, could be responsible for the sport, of which, you enjoy today ???
