Twist Rate

Does anyone out there know the twist rate of a Schultz & Larsen mod 62 300 mt rifle built back in the 50s .308 cal.? Would like to know. Thanks Mal.

I believe the barrel twist rate for this rifle will be 1 in 10".

I hope you are correct Keith,I am in the process of buying one and wish to shoot cast projectiles in it,most of my accurate moulds req. a faster twist than 14/1,I am using a Omark with that rotation and find the lighter pills work better.We are hoping to start cast bullet Benchrest matches at our new 200 yd range at Adelaide pistol and shooting club. Are you familiar with the S &L mod 62.? I think they came into AU around the 1956 Olympics being a 300 mt 3P rifle. They were very popular here at Hahndorf Rifle Club and used in their 200yd German Ring Match.

S&L on they're sporting rifles at least use to stamp the twist rate on the barrel. Ask the seller if it is marked at all. I've got a M60 and a M65DL and both are marked with the twist rates.

That being said....saami/cip spec. is 1-12 twist. That doesn't mean the manfu. couldn't have done a different twist like 1-10.

You can check it with a cleaning rod and a snug fitting patch. Mark the rod and after one full rotation mark the rod again. Measure the distance in between the two marks. If it's 12" then you know you have a 1-12 twist etc....not a perfect way but it'll tell you pretty much what you have.

Seller has advised it’s a 10/1 Am now the proud owner!! I know it’s old tech. But then so am I.

Mal, The 168's (smk bullets) will fly just fine out of a 10 twist also.

My 30/06 AI holds two local range records one with 155.5 Bergers and one with 168 SMK's. the barrel is a 10" twist 32" parallel contour.
