It’s been a while since I’ve hopped behind a full hunting rifle . And one can become very spoiled and take for granted how easy our comp guns are to shoot tiny little groups ! It took me nearly 50 shots to tune a load for my triple 222 r . Another thing I’ve been very spoiled with is shooting a 180 gr 7 mm projectile and it’s blatant regard for the wind at 100m’s .
Yes don’t try and shoot these little.096 G 7 pills just before a storm or in fact any wind at all ! In the round robin load developing photo of 3 targets on one a 4 page . 20.3 and 20.6 gr of 2207 , there is 2 shots go through the same hole and one shot drop low at 6 o’clock. The low shots were both from a 6 o’clock tail wind . I suspect from downward turbulence of my rifle range baffling . And any breath of wind at all just pushed the little 40 grainers around . It really puts in perspective of what young M Lowe achieved at Pinjar with her little .223 !!
Ok at 20.8 and .20.9 the group opened up to 2” . Went back to 20.6 just before a storm with 10 shots , planning of getting a ragged hole !! Haha! WHAT A WASTE OF TIME !! The wind at 100m blew me all over the target!! About a 2” group !! With a 7mm pill it would have been WHAT WIND !!
So the final load which seems to be in the middle of a broad node .
Is in my M55 tikka 20.4 gr of 2207 at 3050 FPS and an indicator SD of 16 and a best of 1/2 Moa at 100 m’s . Not bad for a spot lighting gun ! Just have to be no wind lol!
