Just chuck in 20-21.5grs and see how you go. Have found those bullets need to be very close to the lands to get good accuracy. I run 21.5gr with 52gr noslers shots and will shoot well under half minute in a light sporter using Remington brass.

Thanks , I’m thinking starting at 20 gr and work up ? I’ll take a gut feeling and say 20.8 gr of 2207 .

I’ll let ya know ? 8)

It’s been a while since I’ve hopped behind a full hunting rifle . And one can become very spoiled and take for granted how easy our comp guns are to shoot tiny little groups ! It took me nearly 50 shots to tune a load for my triple 222 r . Another thing I’ve been very spoiled with is shooting a 180 gr 7 mm projectile and it’s blatant regard for the wind at 100m’s .

Yes don’t try and shoot these little.096 G 7 pills just before a storm or in fact any wind at all ! In the round robin load developing photo of 3 targets on one a 4 page . 20.3 and 20.6 gr of 2207 , there is 2 shots go through the same hole and one shot drop low at 6 o’clock. The low shots were both from a 6 o’clock tail wind . I suspect from downward turbulence of my rifle range baffling . And any breath of wind at all just pushed the little 40 grainers around . It really puts in perspective of what young M Lowe achieved at Pinjar with her little .223 !! =D>

Ok at 20.8 and .20.9 the group opened up to 2” . Went back to 20.6 just before a storm with 10 shots , planning of getting a ragged hole !! Haha! WHAT A WASTE OF TIME !! The wind at 100m blew me all over the target!! About a 2” group !! With a 7mm pill it would have been WHAT WIND !!

So the final load which seems to be in the middle of a broad node .
Is in my M55 tikka 20.4 gr of 2207 at 3050 FPS and an indicator SD of 16 and a best of 1/2 Moa at 100 m’s . Not bad for a spot lighting gun ! Just have to be no wind lol!

222 was my first centerfire and I've always had one or more on the safe and played with several others.

If you have a decent barrel and bedding, 50gr bullet and 20.5 to 21.5gr of 2207 I rarely see one shoot over 1" at 100. I knew sweet FA about harmonics and nodes etc when I began loading but it didn't take long to figure out that it seemed to shoot best every 1gr.

They were the in thing for 100 and 200 BR for many years rite up until the PPC began to dominate so if you and your rifle are up to it you could expect to see groups in the .5" range regularly even from a hunting rifle. My current stock standard Sako varmint 222 will shoot .25 to .5. A CZ 527 that I recently sold which was stock standard and pencil thin barrel would shoot .3 to .7.

I sighted in my old 223 the other day.
8 twist barrel with many shots down it shooting fclass throated for 80 gn sierra, so much jump with 50 gn nosler ballistic tips.
Hornady and sierra 50 gn equivalent vaporize in that twist, hence bullet choice.
loads with benchmark 2 are 20 years old, and charge forgotten.
got on paper at 25, and back at 100 1st group was 0.3.
adjusted sights and final group was 0.15.
I am saying it might be a realistic 0.5 gun if I am lucky.
I once saw a fox hit with one of those 40 gn bullets.
it was facing the shooter, and the bullet hit it on the point of the bottom jaw.
it blew off the bottom jaw, and left the fox alive in a bad state.
on the point of the shoulder might stay in well enough to keep the skin?
bruce.

Poor form I know , but only reason for the 40 gr is there were 500 of them at $143.00 and I could not get any 50 v max .

That’s Australia! We are always running out of components!
