Vic F-Open Series!!!
Victorian F-Open Series!!!
Starting back in April, Paul McCarthy and I have been working on a plan to help get F-Open out of the doldrums in Victoria. So here's what we've come up with. Most Vic F-Open shooters we know of have been contacted about it already, but here it is again for anyone we missed.
Shoots in Series
1. Lang Lang OPM, Oct 14 2006, 300, 500 (or 400?), 600yd
2. Geelong OPM, Feb 16 2007, 800, 800, 800m
3. Werribee OPM, Apr ?? 2007, 500, 600, 700yd (if Werribee is unable to get a suitable date, Rosedale Mar 25 300, 500, 600yd is the backup venue)
4. No 2&3 OPM, Bendigo, Jun 10 2007, 700, 900, 1000yd
Series Scoring
For each shoot, the top shooter scores 100%. Other shooters score a percentage based on their aggregate divided by the top shooter's aggregate. At the end of the series, each shooter's best 3 percentage scores are totalled, giving a series score out of 300%. This will allow competitors to miss one of the four shoots without being disadvantaged by missing a shoot where the others enjoyed easy conditions.
Series Entry Fees
$30 payable to Lang Lang RC prior to the first shoot entered. N.B. it will still be necessary to pay normal entry fees to the host clubs at each meeting.
Series Trophies and Badges
Apart from OPM badges (3 guaranteed) and trophies from the OPM organising clubs, there will be Series badges for the top 3. Series Trophies will be awarded based on entry numbers and sponsorship amounts, with all entry fees (after costs) and sponsorship money or merchandise being distributed. The Series presentation will take place after the last leg at Bendigo on Queens Birthday weekend, possibly with a pub meal on the Sunday night.
All Welcome!
Any Interstate shooters are very welcome to compete in the series, or to compete in any of the 4 shoots without entering the series. You can be assured of decent-sized fields to make your trip worthwhile.
Don't forget!
To all those who have already shown an interest, and anyone else who is a possibility of entering, please put the above dates on your calendar, and help us to ensure that F-Open not only survives, but grows in Victoria. If this series is successful, in future years we plan to gradually add a few more OPMs, and use this as a way of promoting the F-Open category in all parts of the state.

REMINDER to all VIC F-OPEN SHOOTERS
The first leg of the Series is nearly on us ! Lang Lang OPM is only 10 days away, 300, 400 and 500yds starting at 8:30am on Oct 14. So if you're concerned about the future of this category in Vic, please make the effort to be there. There will be 4 shoots in the series, and you can drop (or miss) one without penalty. Series trophies will be good, and spread well down the finishing order.
Looking forward to a strong showing.

Good stuff Wayne . Now we're getting somewhere!
And we have a good mixture of calibres already - if everyone shoots what I think, there will be a 6BR, 6BRX, 6.5x284, and 7x284. Now if only we had a .223 and a .308 in the field.... (I'm appealing to a couple of leading F-Std shooters whom I spoke to at the Bendigo Teams shoot - with a little arm-twisting they may enter their standard rifles in Open at Lang Lang!).

For those interested, here's a brief report on the first leg of our series.
We had 7 F-Open shooters, of whom 5 have entered the full series. While not being over the moon, I'm satisfied with those numbers given that several shooters who would normally have showed had good reasons why they couldn't make it. They will probably all be at the second leg at Geelong. I hope no-one thinks they're out of it if they missed the first leg -they're not! You're allowed to miss one of the 4 legs without any penalty to your series score.
For Lang Lang the conditions were relatively tricky and variable - I actually got a 100 possible at 400yds, then got a 92 with a couple of 8s at 500. The series scores are on our "Other Events" results page - CLICK HERE

P,
Yes, the series is certainly still on. Next leg is at Anakie East range (NE of Geelong) on 17 Feb. We have had the first leg, but with the best 3 to count, you need only shoot 3 of the 4. See Paul McCarthy on that day before the shoot if you want to enter.
Have you joined a club? I seem to remember you were asking about it a week or so back.
